Michael James Wong

Michael James Wong is an international yoga teacher born in New Zealand and raised on the beaches of Santa Monica, CA who now calls London home. Michael’s journey with yoga started in the early 2000’s living in Santa Monica with a background in athletics, high adventure sports, dance and movement before eventually moving across the world to Sydney, Australia where the practice became deeper and more connected.

Now residing in London, Michael teaches and travels the world sharing his experience with yoga to all that he meets along the way. He teaches West Coast Power Yoga which pays homage to his teachers Bryan Kest, Duncan Peak, Travis Eliot and the Baptiste Method. Michael’s classes are best described by his students as a strong and dynamic yang style of class… delivered with kindness. It’s a practice that gives you the physical strength and challenge you want, but more importantly the opportunity to find your sense of compassion and space on and off the mat.

“Yoga’s not just something you ‘do’ in a dar room with candles and Bonobo; it’s not about making shapes that look good on Instagram. All that means nothing. Yoga is my belief system, my attitude to life, a culture that I abide by and a community I’m a part of. A lot of people think Yoga is like a religion, but the truth is it’s as far away as you can get. Religion asks you to narrow your beliefs; yoga asks you to open them up.”

Michael is also the founder of BOYS OF YOGA, an awareness project that is helping to change the perception of yoga for men around the word. Michael is the head teacher for Udaya UK.
